The European Commission has granted a preliminary extension to the proposed approval of an EU-wide Cialis-only tablet-enhanced version of the drug that is already available in France.
The drug, called Tadalafil, is the first of three such drug approvals for erectile dysfunction in France. The other three have been granted preliminary approval by the EMA (European Medicines Agency) in November 2019.
“This new approval means that Cialis will remain available to the public in France for a period of up to two years,” said the French health ministry’s medical director, Dr. Olivier Ameisen.
“The drug has already been approved for use in France. This approval also means that Cialis will remain available for a period of up to 36 months,” he said.
The EMA has also granted approval for use in Germany for a Cialis-only tablet-enhanced version of the drug. The EMA’s decision is based on preliminary information from France.
Tadalafil is an orally disintegrating tablet, which is designed to dissolve in the mouth, and then taken by a healthcare professional.
Tadalafil, or tadalafil, is available from pharmacies without prescription.
The EMA also approved Cialis as an option in Spain for erectile dysfunction in men. Cialis is available in the European Union for 36 months.
Tadalafil has a “potency” of about 4.5 milligrams (mg) a day.
According to the European Commission, Cialis is the second-leading erectile dysfunction (ED) drug in the European Union, following Viagra and Levitra.
Tadalafil has a longer duration of action than sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra), and avanafil (Stendra) — but it doesn’t have the same efficacy as other ED drugs.
“As a first-line treatment, tadalafil is effective for up to 36 months, and the drug is also available over the counter,” Ameisen said.
“The Commission is very satisfied that Cialis will be the treatment of choice for men who suffer from ED and have failed to respond adequately to other ED medications.”
He added that a new clinical trial will be conducted by the EMA in France next year to test the drug’s efficacy for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Cialis is already available in the EU. France also offers Cialis for 36 months, with a maximum daily dose of 6 mg.
The drug was originally intended for use by men with erectile dysfunction, but the EMA granted approval for use in Germany for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
AIM’s experts are confident that a trial of the new drug would be conducted in Germany next year, Ameisen said.
“The European Commission is confident in the safety and efficacy of Cialis for erectile dysfunction, but we are not sure how much is available,” he said.
AIM’s experts said that Cialis will remain available in France for up to 36 months. “We’re sure that the French public will benefit from this treatment,” Ameisen said.
AIM’s experts said that the European Commission is confident that a trial of the new drug would be conducted in Germany next year, Ameisen said.
“We will have a trial at the end of this year,” he said.
“The Commission is also confident that Cialis will remain available for up to 36 months in France,” Ameisen said.
/Tadalafil is the first of a new class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i), which are the main drugs used for erectile dysfunction. They work by relaxing blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the penis, and making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection. They are available by prescription only.
According to the Commission, Cialis is the first of the new PDE5i class of drugs, which also includes Viagra, Levitra, and Stendra.
“This is the first of three such PDE5i approvals in France,” Ameisen said.
1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.

Whether you can take Tadalafil at the same time as your other medications will depend on which medications you are taking.
You are required to complete a short medical consultation questionnaire that asks for any medications that you are prescribed from your GP and will indicate the medications that can’t be taken alongside Tadalafil.
There are several medicines which should not be taken concurrently with Tadalafil. Medicines which can have potentially serious interactions with Tadalafil include :-
• Any alpha-blocker medicines e.g. doxazosin (Cardura), alfuzosin (Xatral), tamsulosin, terazosin, or Flomax, that you can buy in the pharmacy. (These medicines may be used to treat prostate problems or high blood pressure).
• Isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, or use a GTN spray or tablets
for chest pain or use Rectogesic ointment?
• Nicorandil (Ikorel), used to treat angina
• Cimetidine, used to treat stomach or duodenal (peptic) ulcers
• Theophylline, used to treat asthma
• Antibiotics:- Clarithromycin, Erythromycin and Telithromycin
• Anti-fungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole
• Seizure medication:- carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone
• Heart or blood pressure medication:- disopyramide, amiodarone, quinidine and procainamide
• Anti-viral medication:- telaprevir, atazanavir, retonavir, indinavir, saquinavir and cobicistat
• Recreational drugs:- amyl nitrate (poppers)

A U. S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel unanimously voted 18-6 to recommend that the Food and Drug Administration regulate the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis (tadalafil), which is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
The FDA said the panel voted 18-6 to recommend that Cialis be approved in the U. and that Cialis be pulled from the market for other drugs to treat other diseases.
